CONCEPT:
A sense of mystery resonates with me after reading the script for Harvey. A 6ft white rabbit that can only be seen and heard by an energetic man named Elwood is quite the plot. Elwood is quite whimsical which gives off a comedic feeling throughout the play. The combination of comedy and mystery that is represented in Harvey creates a beautiful and engaging experience for the audience.
The feeling of goofiness, wonder, and magic are embodied in my poster through the illustration of Harvey and the color choices. The illustration of Harvey was hand done to show the raw organic texture in the lines. The typeface that is used for the title Harvey also has the element of the hand. The 2 most prominent figures of the poster reflect the playfulness of the performance as well as the portrayal of Elwood. Harvey’s pose could be described as mischievous and sneaky to pay homage to his trickery throughout the play.
Purple, which is shown in the background and bowtie, is a combination of red and blue. The red represents Elwood’s friendly and energetic nature whereas the blue represents the calmness and stability of Harvey. The color purple is often associated with mystery which is why it is shown through the haze in the background. The stars that drape over the top of the poster behind the text equate to the wonder and magic that comes at night.

CONCEPT:
When most of the day consists of working at the hot steel mill, it’s not crazy to assume that the day probably ends with an ice-cold beer. The characters in this play go through long, hot grueling days working their tails off to provide for their family. The world around them is changing and from their point of view it is not good change. From alcoholism, drug addiction, racism and job loss this showing of Sweat touches on a vast collection of issues that are often forgotten today.
This poster creates a dynamic composition with the beer glass symbolizing the characters. The steel frame encompasses the steel mill that is constantly holding these characters back from enjoying their lives and being free from the traditional way of life that the outside world is moving away from. The beer glass is extending out of the frame to show the escape that the local bar in town is for these workers. The sparks and welds on the steel frame represent the connection between the characters because they are all united by their need work and provide for their families.
