CONCEPT:
Autism McLean strives to create an autism friendly community. The six foundational standards that they hold assist with creating a safe environment for people with autism. These six core principles are the highlight of my poster design.
Learn With Me, A Place For Me, Wellness For Me, Work With Me, Recreation For Me, and Welcome Me are all associated with specific colors in the Autism Friendly Community. Each color is vibrant and impactful sitting against a stark black background to enhance the vibrancy of each color creating an exciting composition.
I reached out to my sister who is a speech pathologist and works with people with autism every day. With her experience and knowledge, we came up with a list of words that associate with each of the six standards. The words in the poster are built together almost like a ‘puzzle piece’. The words are arranged in various sizes to engage the viewers in an abstract composition from afar while only the word ‘Autism’ is readable, but as you draw closer to the poster different words reveal themselves. This relates to my interpretation of how society treats autism and people without autism are unaware of how unique and mysterious people with autism are.
My goal is that my poster design can shed light on all the positive aspects of autism and how having an autism friendly community is so important to help people understand, respect, and support people with autism.
